On the afternoon of September 7, Lu Jiangguang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Wugang Company under HBIS Group, led a delegation to visit a leading client in the petrochemical engineering design sector. Building on their longstanding, robust cooperation, the two sides held an in-depth discussion covering topics such as domestic substitution of specialty steel plates, collaborative efforts on key projects, expansion of cooperation in new technologies and emerging fields, and deepening supply-chain integration.
Long Jie, Deputy General Manager of Wugang Company, attended the visit, accompanied by relevant heads from the Market Management Department, the Sales Department, and the Science and Technology Department.
During the symposium, senior executives of the client extended a warm welcome to Lu Jiangguang and his delegation. They noted that, as one of China’s leading comprehensive Class-A design firms in refining and petrochemical engineering, the company has long been deeply engaged in areas such as petrochemical engineering design and EPC general contracting, with a strong foothold in cutting-edge fields like high-end refining and petrochemicals, energy storage and storage facilities, and low‑carbon new energy. Over the years, they have consistently recognized Wugang’s product quality, technical expertise, and brand reputation. The closed-loop collaborative model jointly established by both parties—“design standardization–material customization–project implementation–standard iteration”—has yielded remarkable results, effectively addressing numerous “bottleneck” challenges in high‑end steel applications for the petrochemical industry. They expressed hope that the two sides will continue to deepen technological synergy and expand opportunities for domestic substitution across a broader range of applications.
Lu Jiangguang expressed his gratitude to the client for their longstanding trust and support of Wugang Company. He noted that, as China’s first research and production base for wide‑and‑thick steel plates, Wugang has consistently deepened its R&D and manufacturing capabilities in specialized steel grades for sectors such as oil and coal chemical industries. The ultra‑thick plate quenching line is operating at full capacity, a newly built tempering furnace is nearing commissioning, and various production facilities are being rapidly upgraded and modernized. The company continues to optimize its production and operational systems, possessing the capability to custom‑develop and mass‑supply high‑end thick plates, hydrogen‑resistant steels, and low‑temperature, high‑strength steels. Upholding a customer‑centric approach, Wugang is steadily strengthening internal management, refining its end‑to‑end customer service and support framework, and precisely meeting the demanding steel requirements of advanced petrochemical equipment under extreme operating conditions. Looking ahead, both parties are expected to further consolidate their benchmark “design + materials” collaboration model in the high‑end petrochemical sector, focusing on coordinated bidding for key projects, proactive R&D of specialized materials, and iterative upgrades of new processes. Together, they will explore emerging fields such as new energy and low‑carbon environmental protection, jointly advancing the petrochemical industry toward higher value, domestic substitution, and green development.

Recently, the results of the 2026 Metallurgical Science and Technology Awards were announced. The project “Development and Application of Key Technologies for High-Strength, Tough, Extra-Thick Steel Plates for Marine Equipment,” jointly submitted by Wugang Company and Northeastern University, was awarded the Grand Prize, marking a major breakthrough for China in the field of critical materials for marine engineering. After ten years of intensive research and sustained efforts, the project has successfully overcome the challenges in producing high-strength, tough, extra-thick steel plates—materials essential for building such national strategic assets as ultra-large deepwater drilling platforms, massive wind‑farm installation vessels, and 10,000‑meter‑class submersibles.
