On the morning of August 30, with the last set of 500m long rails successfully laid on the track bed at Xiamen North Station of Fuzhou Xiamen High Speed Railway, Fuzhou Xiamen High Speed Railway, the first cross sea high-speed railway in China, successfully completed the track laying of the whole line. During the construction of Fuzhou Xiamen High speed Railway, Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. of Hegang Group has supplied more than 10000 tons of high-quality steel plates for its key control project - Quanzhou Bay Sea Crossing Bridge, of which more than 3000 tons of Ni are Q345qDNHY-I weather resistant bridge steel plates supporting its key parts.
Fuzhou Xiamen High speed Railway starts from Fuzhou in the north and joins Xiamen Shenzhen Railway and Longzhou Xiamen Railway in the south. With a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour and a total length of 277.42 kilometers, it is an important part of the coastal corridor of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network. There are three extremely difficult construction sites for track laying of Fuzhou Xiamen High Speed Railway, namely Meizhou Bay, Quanzhou Bay and Anwan Bay. Quanzhou Bay Sea Crossing Bridge is located in Quanzhou City, with a total length of 20 kilometers, including 9 kilometers for sea area construction. Due to the complex marine hydrological environment, and the wind force is above Grade 6 most of the time every year, the bridge steel required for bridge construction is extremely high.
1Ni weather resistant bridge steel plate is recognized by the industry as one of the "green and environment-friendly steel grades in the new century". It is a landmark product reflecting the R&D competitiveness of steel enterprises. It is mainly used in the fields of bridges, engineering machinery, marine facilities, etc., with high toughness and other characteristics, and has broad market prospects.
Wugang has deeply promoted the "two structure optimization", and constantly created the "champion steel" products to lead the industry progress based on customer demand. In response to the project demand of Quanzhou Bay Cross sea Bridge of Fuzhou Xiamen High speed Railway, Wuyang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. established a research team to deeply connect with customers and provide them with a package of material solutions, which were recognized by customers. In the production process, Wugang innovated smelting, rolling and heat treatment processes, broke through the industrial technical bottlenecks such as the difficulty in controlling the surface quality of steel under the design conditions of special composition, the mismatch between high alloy content and marine climate corrosion resistance coefficient, and successfully developed products whose performance indicators are completely superior to customer requirements. Finally, the low temperature toughness, marine atmospheric corrosion resistance and other characteristics of the product reach the international leading level.

Wugang Company’s project, “Development and Application of Key Technologies for High-Strength, Tough, Extra-Thick Steel Plates for Marine Equipment,” has been awarded the Special Prize of the 2026 Metallurgical Science and Technology Award.

Recently, the results of the 2026 Metallurgical Science and Technology Awards were announced. The project “Development and Application of Key Technologies for High-Strength, Tough, Extra-Thick Steel Plates for Marine Equipment,” jointly submitted by Wugang Company and Northeastern University, was awarded the Grand Prize, marking a major breakthrough for China in the field of critical materials for marine engineering. After ten years of intensive research and sustained efforts, the project has successfully overcome the challenges in producing high-strength, tough, extra-thick steel plates—materials essential for building such national strategic assets as ultra-large deepwater drilling platforms, massive wind‑farm installation vessels, and 10,000‑meter‑class submersibles.
